If we’re going to be honest about news today, we have to also consider the source of the information. In today’s highly politicized climate, news simply isn’t news anymore inasmuch as it’s opinion and cheerleading for one side or the other. Anyone looking at news without a preconceived idea can clearly see nearly all media is in the tank for one candidate or the other. That’s not the news of yesteryear, and our so-called reporters haven’t the class nor even the ability of those in the mid 20th century. Walter Cronkite, for example, was a liberal, yet that belief system of his didn’t seem to come out with his reporting. That is professionaliam. I wish we had more news media like that.
The unfortunate part of this is the American people suffer in a way in that we simply do not know any more what is and is not true. We have to take someone’s word for it and we tend to accept the words that we choose to believe rather than researching and taking the time to find out the truth.
Politics is a dirty business and it seems to get worse with each election cycle. I don’t know where that will take us as a country and a society, but I don’t believe it will end well, unfortunately.
